Lock Lane under 13s came out on top 10-0 in a highly competitive Castleford and District Junior Cup semi-final against Castleford Panthers.
Playing in torrential rain, both sides knew possession was key and Lane started in fine form by completing their sets and playing the game in the Panthers half.
Ferocious defence from Johan Adderley, Joshua Kear, Kieran Purdy and Harry Dodd forced Panthers into mistakes which kept them under pressure.
The Panthers defence held strong despite Lane throwing everything at them with Ritchie Westwood, Lucas Sutton and Jack Firth all going close.
Lane broke the deadlock after drives from Kear, Adderley, Liam Winks and Euan Jones gave Kian Watson the chance to dive over.
Panthers upped their game and began to control the ball better and started to pressure the Lane line.
Harry Wright, Harry Philipson, Taku Murangari and Mason Davies all made great tackles to keep Lane 4-0 ahead at half time.
The second half started with a mistake from Lane putting Panthers on the attack but Lane weathered the storm, with Corey Westwood, Firth and Robbie Newton prominent.
As the half wore on it was constant Panthers pressure and Lane were holding on at times but they showed great heart and determination to keep out their opponents.
With time running out Lane’s forwards set up the position for Ritchie Westwood to score and Sutton converted to seal victory.
Man of the match was Firth, top tackler Newton, 100 per cent effort award winner was Watson and Adderley was opposition’s man of the match, but all Lane’s team deserved credit for a magnificent performance.
