SKIPPER Sam Payne piled up 20 points with three tries and four goals as leaders Methley Royals eased to a 44-0 victory over Sharlston Rovers A in Saturday’s Pennine League Division One game.

Sharlston had the better of the early stages but were foiled by Methley’s resolute defence.

The Royals went ahead when centre Payne scored an 11th minute try.

Second row Stu Biscomb crossed four minutes later to make it 10-0.

MOM Adam Biscomb gave a towering display at prop.

Three minutes into the second period Payne grabbed his second score. Chris Woolford and Dave Williams (two) also crossed as the Royals upped the tempo in the final quarter. Payne completed his hat-trick and winger Josh Dixon bagged a brace.

The Royals visit title rivals Batley Boys on Saturday.
