Amateurs Lock Lane were trounced 80-4 at Kingstone Press Championship Halifax in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fifth round on Sunday.

Any hopes the National Conference League Premier Division side had of pulling off an upset quickly disappeared when they were 18-0 down after 19 minutes.

Trailing 40-0 at half-time, the Castleford side opened the second-half scoring when Karl Robinson scooted over from acting half but Halifax then cut loose again to run out easy winners.

Lane tried hard but any mistakes were frequently punished as Halifax bounced back from the previous week’s surprise home league defeat against Swinton Lions.

Ed Barber scored four tries and captain Steve Tyrer kicked 12 goals to notch his 1,000th point for the club.

Halifax’s other try scorers were were Ben Johnston (2), Gareth Potts (2), Jacob Fairbank, Connor Robinson, Gareth Moore, Andy Bracek, Miles Greenwood and Luke Ambler.
