Leeds Rhinos and England Rugby League star Tom Briscoe went back to the classroom for a day and took the Challenge Cup with him when he visited Purston Infants School, in Featherstone.
Former Purston pupil Tom delighted children when he went back to the school he attended as a youngster and answered their questions on what it is like to be a player at the top level of his sport.
Chairman of governors Derrick Taylor explained: “We constantly encourage the children at our school to believe in what they can achieve.
“When one of our past pupils does well we let the current pupils know. Tom went to our school, along with his other two successful rugby playing brothers.
“I asked Tom if he would bring the Challenge Cup into school and he said he would be delighted. He turned up with the cup, which is bigger than many of the children, and actually went into all the classes answering questions and talking to the children.
“They were so excited and although some are Castleford supporters, whose team lost in the final, they were very forgiving and so proud that they attend the same school as Tom.
“We thanked Tom for coming in and wished him a speedy recovery from injury and many more trophies in the future.”
