Methley Royals stormed through to the BARLA National Cup quarterfinals in great style with a 60-18 win at Hilton Paerk on Saturday.
In the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 23, the Royals visit Sharlston Rovers and Pontefract side Nevison Leap travel to Batley Boys.
Methley were 16-0 up in as many minutes against Leigh side Hilton Park.
Matty Handforth, Dave Williams and Andy Matthews crossed in the early stages.
Handforth scampered in for his second score, Stu Biscombe dummied his way through for a superb try and Sam Payne kicked the first four of his eight goals to put the Royals 28-12 ahead at half-time.
Steve Scott rocked Hilton Park seven minutes into the second-half with a spectacular 85-yard solo try.
The Royals then increased their lead to 32 points with tries by Matthews – courtesy of Handforth’s telling pass – and loose forward Lee Starbuck, who battered his way over from 25 yards out.
Matthews completed his hat-trick by beating the cover to a kick by Scott, who had hacked on after previous kicks by scrum-half Andy Speake and Handforth.
Man of the match Adam Biscomb broke away to send in Handforth for his third try and the Royals completed the rout when Speake crossed after good work by Kris Ward.
Methley host Allerton Bywater on Saturday in Pennine League Division One in their first home match since early December.
