ener Richard Young hammered 12 fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 102 to keep Ackworth on course for the Pontefract League Division One title.

Young’s century was the highlight of Ackworth’s nine-wicket win at Frickley Colliery that kept kept them five points clear of closest rivals South Kirkby who beat Wombwell Main by 22 runs.

Young put on 88 for the first wicket with skipper Peter Hepworth (36) and shared an unbroken 101-run stand with Dale Longfield (41no) as Ackworth overhauled Fricklery’s 183-6 that included 62 by Inderjit Hayre.

Ackworth host Townville and South Kirkby visit Methley in the first round of the Yorkshire Council Championship play-offs on Sunday.

Ryan Greatrick (42), Mark Abdy (41no) and Simon Kemp (40no) led Fairburn to 194-6 and Jake Abdy (3-19) restricted Hooton’s reply to 142-6.

Only one team will be relegated from each of the top two divisions this season and Whitley Bridge’s recent revival has left second bottom Knottingley looking anxiously over their shoulders.

Knottingley are now only 14 points clear of Whitley after losing a high-scoring game at Sandal on Saturday.

Dan Riley (90) and Sam Noden (72) steered Sandal to 235-5 and Knottingley’s reply fell short on 208-8, despite 90 from Matthew Stones.
