FUN-LOVING riders and their costumed steeds said neigh to tradition and trotted into a Castleford horse show wearing fancy dress on Sunday.
Children's favourite Humpty Dumpty, with a king's man and horse dressed as a wall, beat competition from cowgirls and film character Shrek to win the novelty category of Castleford Riding Club's extravaganza.
Classes in jumping, showing and time trials also took place at the sun-soaked event in Queen's Park on Ferrybridge Road.
Show organiser Lindsay Griffiths said: "It was a fantastic day. I can't believe we had such amazing weather because in previous years it has been terrible.
"We had a great turnout and such a lot of interest from riders – the novelty section was popular and had some great fancy dress entries.
"Madeline Bullock won with a great entry of Humpty Dumpty, one of the king's men and a wall on her horse Socks."
Castleford Riding Club is holding further shows on June 21 and July 19.
