MORE than 150 runners stepped out to help Pontefract's Prince of Wales Hospice by taking part in the care centre's first ever 10k road race on Sunday.
Organisers say the race – that started and finished in Pontefract Park –was so successful they are already planning next year's eventHospice fundraiser Nikki Hinman said: "We are already making plans for next year's race and we hope to see even more running clubs taking part now the event is established.
"A date will be announced shortly confirming next year's plans - we would like to thank everyone involved in making Sunday's event such a success."
Race winner was Adam Carmichael in 35 mins 39 secs, with Simon Newton second in a time of 35 mins 51 secs and Mark Ridgway finishing third in 35 mins 56 secs.
First woman finisher was Faye Banks in 39 mins 16 secs, with Linda Harris second in 42 mins 10 secs and Christine McCarthy third in 43 mins. All three are members of Ackworth Road Runners.
Prizes were also awarded in various veterans' categories.
Around 100 runners also took part in the hospice's annual 2.3m fun run in the park on Sunday.
