KAOS – Kippax Amateur Operatic Society presents the musical show Mack and Mabel until Saturday May 10 at Castleford Civic Centre. The score is full of memorable songs, made famous by among others, Torvill and Dean, who won the gold medal at the World Ice-Dance Championships, dancing to the overture from Mack and Mabel. BACK – Castleford artist David Wilders presents his first solo exhibition, Back Breaking Work, at 2 Sagar Street, Castleford. The exhibition is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 4pm and runs until Friday May 30.
COURSES – Enrolment is now taking place for two courses at The Link, Beancroft Road, Castleford. Creative card making will take place on Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, fees apply unless on benefits. Thursday May 8
WALK – A Castleford walk through time is being held by Lock Lane Walking Group, meeting outside the Metro office at Castleford bus station for a 6.30pm start. The gentle walk, lasting about 90 minutes, will be led by Ivan Brown of Castleford and District Historical Society, and will include stops to hear interesting facts about the area. Castleford Heritage Society will be providing refreshments after the walk at Sagar Street. Booking is essential as places are limited, telephone 01924 306693.
INSTITUTE – East Hardwick WI meets in the village hall at 7.15pm when John Freer will demonstrate hanging baskets and tubs. New members and visitors welcome.
LINE – Trinity Methodist Church, Castleford, holds a line dance from 8pm to 10.30pm with music by Eddie and Gloria. Admission is £2.50, including supper.
Friday May 9
QUILT – A drop-in session for the Castleford Heritage Quilt will be held at 2 Sagar Street, Castleford, from 10am to 4pm. Help create a Castleford Heritage quilt showing the links between the town's past, present and future.The project seeks to involve people of all ages. This is an on-going project and there will be more events throughout 2008.
ORGAN – Lunchtime organ music performed by Jonathan Bielby (Wakefield Cathedral) at St Giles' Church, Market Place, Pontefract, at 1pm. Admission free, retiring collection. Tea and coffee available after the recital. All welcome.
BABIES – The WEA is running a Busy Babies course at the Glass Houghton Centre, starting today from 1pm to 3pm for eight weeks. The course is for parents to attend with their children and enjoy participating in a range of activities together. From 12 months to two years.
