Bank holiday line-ups

August bank holiday weekend is upon us and, as the rest of the world gets stuck in motorway traffic jams, our clubs are offering some compelling reasons to stay in our home patch and visit the local club.

With some top class entertainment on offer, let’s have a trawl around our local clubs and see exactly what is on offer.

There is a family fun-day to enjoy at Horbury WMC on bank holiday Monday. The fun starts at 1pm and the lovely singer Jane Tracie, who also doubles in the guise of children’s entertainer Calamity Jane, will be providing the entertainment. The Pink Lady majorettes will also be going along so why not give it a try?

Top band 70s Express will be providing the party music in Pontefract at Willow Park Social Club on bank holiday Monday evening. This highly rated attraction is sure to pack the place, so be early.

Singing glamour-puss Carrie Michaels has recently returned to the stage after giving birth to her first child. This blonde bombshell appears on Sunday at Hopetown Liberal Club in Normanton. I’m sure that one or two of her regular admirers in this area will turn up to support her.

There is a wonderful double bill to enjoy at Alverthorpe WMC this weekend with highly rated comedy entertainer John Gillan teaming up in a double bill with the gorgeous Helen Marie on Sunday evening.

The last time I worked at Alverthorpe was in a double bill with this young lady and she certainly had a lot of male fans in the audience.

There is an afternoon event to enjoy at Crigglestone WMC on bank holiday Monday, with a children’s entertainer and free pop and crisps for club members’ children. The fun starts at 12.30pm and at Crigg they always know how to look after the kids.

I worked in a show with South Elmsall singer Lucas Primmer last weekend and I was very impressed with what I saw. Young Lucas is just learning his business and admittedly there are one or two issues to address.

But he is talented and keen to learn, so in my view Lucas could go a long way in showbusiness. Watch out for him!

The hilarious comedy act Sneezewort and that great clubland lady Karen King make up the entertainment at Edward VII club at Allerton Bywater near Castleford.

As I reported in a recent column, this club will soon be launching Friday night entertainment and I am looking forward to visiting soon.

Wakefield newcomer singer Trevor Craig has a lot of potential, as I discovered recently when I saw him in the grand final of the Wakefield Starsearch talent competition.

Trevor heads back to the Starsearch venue at Westgate Common Club to kick off the weekend in style on a Friday night show. I’m sure that many of young Trevor’s family and friends will be going along to support him.
