City kids star in top show

A QUARTET of dancers from Wakefield will take to the stage in The King and I.

Sisters Anya, Alanna and Yasmin Panditaratne, along with Jasmine Lynch have all been cast in the heart warming musical at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre.

The girls, who all dance at Elite Studios, took part in open auditions earlier this year along with 300 other local youngsters.They will play the King of Siam’s children.

Anya, Alanna and Yasmin’s mum Indra Panditaratne said: “It’s the first time they’ve been in a professional production at the theatre.

“They’ve done shows at school before but nothing like this. They’re super excited.”

The King and I tells the heart-warming story of the British governess brought to the court of Siam to tutor the King’s many children.

It is famous for its sweeping musical melodies including Shall We Dance, I Whistle A Happy Tune and Getting To Know You.

The King and I starring Ramon Tikaram and Josefina Gabrielle, is on from Tuesday, May 15, to Saturday, May 19.

Evening performances start at 7.30pm with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm. There will also be signed, captioned and auto described performance. Call the box office on 01274 432000.
