Duelling duo set for piano battle!

Ace pianists Craig Michael and Rob Russell have launched their Duelling Pianos at the clubland sector and the B&S Social Club in Featherstone is due a visit from this ivory tickling pair this weekend.

Friday is the night to catch these guys in action and I predict a great night down Wilson Street.

Clubland favourites such as Sonya, Two Steps Forward and the emerging duo Duplicate are just a few of the attractions on offer at Ferrybridge Progressive Club over the next few weeks. With a three-night a week programme of live entertainment, this club is always worth a visit.

When one door shuts another opens as they say and the great DJ Mick McGinley can now be seen with his disco and karaoke at the Admiral Duncan pub on Thornes Wharf in Wakefield.

Mick has been employed on the entertainment front by the new landlord at the Duncan and this should go some way to fill the void left when Mick had to leave the Lupset Hotel as landlord. I wish him all the best and I’m sure all his other pals do too.

Local favourite Paul Stewart is doing very well in both his personal life and his professional life lately.

With a busy date sheet and a recent engagement to Normanton cruise ship star Siobhan Phillips, all seems well in the life of this smooth balladeer these days.

Paul can be seen in action this weekend at Alverthorpe WMC in Wakefield, with a Sunday night appearance in prospect.

Ladybalk Social Club in Pontefract is now presenting live acts on Mondays and Fridays again, after a bit of a fallow period at the club.

Some real clubland favourites are coming up and I hope to call in and see my old friends Brian and Janet Cunningham, who are running things behind the bar these days.

Moorthorpe Empire Club in South Elmsall is to host the next Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries’ Federation showcase.

Oddly enough the federation has chosen to hold the show on St Valentine’s Day, February 14, which should keep the most romantic club-goers away from the show.

However those going along will find the show hosted by new federation favourite Ellie Gent. On the night Ellie is set to introduce solo entertainers BJ, Robbie Elliott, Tanya Taylor and Mark Paul. As ever at such events admission is free.

Methley comedian and singer Johnny Martell is never one for the faint-hearted.

The ever popular Johnnie pops up on stage this weekend at Crigglestone WMC and I’m sure that most people who go along to see him this weekend should enjoy a good laugh.

I haven’t visited Wakefield City Club on a Friday night for a while, but with new duos like Velvet Souls and Twilight and the long-established Sonyx all on offer on Fridays this month, it could be that February turns out quite well at this popular club.
