Half Man Half Biscuit to play in Wakefield

The band, who formed in Birkhenhead in the 1980s, will play at the Smyth Street venue on June 5.

Half Man Half Biscuit shot to fame after reaching the top of the indie chart in 1985 with their first album Back On The DHSS.

The record was championed by Radio One DJ John Peel and became an instant success, despite being recorded for just £30.

The band, whose songs include All I Want For Christmas is a Dukla-Prague Away Kit, became known for their surreal lyrics and observations on every day life.

Even England cricketer Fred Titmus got a mention in songs written by the band’s frontman Nigel Blackwell.

A further 10 albums were recorded after their 1985 debut, including their latest work Urge for Offal.
