Keep on moving

get moving for Theatre Royal Wakefield’s fourth annual dance festival, taking place this month.

Moves: A Festival of Dance, from June 18 to 25, is a week-long celebration, featuring internationally renowned companies bringing a combination of traditional, contemporary and innovative dance styles to the city.

During the festival there is also the chance to take part in workshops with professional dancers and choreographers.

Highlights of the festival include winners of the 2009 best live act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, The Demon Barber Roadshow, with Time Gentlemen Please.

Ludus Dance is a newcomer to the festival with its show Consequences (pictured), featuring the work of three of the nation’s biggest names in choreography.

Other highlights of the festival invlude the acclaimed So & So Circus with The Hot Dots, a touching and thrilling love story of Frank and Evie, vaudeville performers who fell in love in the summer of 1932.

Manasamitra presents Mirror Images, a multi-art form production dealing with conflict from both internal and external perspectives, combining prose and poetry and weaving them into an electrifying music and dance show.

The festival culminates with a high energy dance performance featuring young people from across the district, devised with the support of a professional choreographer.

Theatre Royal Wakefield and Sport and Active Lifestyles have worked in partnership to put the show together and to gice youngsters a chance to perform on a professional theatre stage.
