Lots of talent on show

Horbury WMC is the venue for the next Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries’ Federation showcase night.

The show will be staged next Tuesday evening with federation favourite Jonathan Carroll acting as compere. The acts appearing are all represented by Angle Entertainments and among them are local singers Laura Ellis and Natalie Ann. I may well go along for a look. Admission is free.

Tosh Taylor from Kinsley Coronation Club was in touch with news of the success of the club’s recent Help For Heroes concert.

Tosh tells me that well over £500 was raised at the show last week and the presentation night will be held this weekend. Hemsworth act The P45s will provide the entertainment at Sunday’s presentation evening and it’s a job well done by the regulars at this popular local club, which is known locally as The Ping Club.

Castleford lady Debbie Goodall is a proud mum of her daughter Katrina. Young Katrina is about to head for university to study musical theatre and in order to pay for her studies this lass is set to sing on weekends only in the clubs.

Katrina’s stage name will be Katie J and you can see her later this month at Upton United Services club and elsewhere throughout the area.

Paul Kew from Carlton wmc was in touch regarding the imminent retirement of club steward Bob England. Bob hasn’t been too well recently and has decided to call it a day.

A retirement concert featuring a number of local singers was held a couple of weeks ago and more than £1,100 was raised towards Bob’s retirement fund. I’m sure that everyone at this club wishes this popular club man all the best for the future.

Moorthorpe Empire Club has a visit from that truly brilliant live band attraction Touch and Go this weekend. Friday night shows start this weekend at Alverthorpe WMC. Kicking things off are rock covers duo Roadhouse and later this month Fridays down Flanshaw Lane we are set to see local acts Big Beat and Jason Taylor.

There is a hypnotic night to enjoy at Westgate Common Club this weekend with hypnotist Chris Lee appearing on Saturday night. Singer Adam Le Feavre also appears in a double bill, and I remember Adam way back in the days of presenting the old Northern Startrail.

Adam’s real name is Adam Fowler and he hails from Wakefield. Aside from his stage work, Adam also appears on television as a news reporter on regional news programme Calendar.

That bonny young lad Lee Lambert appears at Crigglestone WMC for a Sunday evening show.

Young Lee has been schooled by the great vocal technique teacher Tony Wayne and, to be honest, it shows. Lee’s mate, the singer Luke Murgatroyd is celebrating this week after being named best male vocalist in the forthcoming CIU sponsored clubland awards show. We really do have some great talent in this area.
