Neat idea for party

’tWAS the weekend before Christmas – but never mind nothing stirring, Wakefield is set for a festive feast of music over the next couple of days.

One of the biggest events is set to be the Guerilla Rooms Christmas Party at The Hop tomorrow night, headlined by the latest big noises out of Hull, The Neat.

Fitting somewhere between The Fall and Franz Ferdinand, they were the first signings to the Kaiser Chiefs’ label Chewing Gum Records, and combine rattling rhythms with lyrics that “don’t so much dissect popular culture as bash it into bits with a big stick”.

Before the East Riding quartet hit the stage, however, there’s a succession of support bands which would make for an impressive enough bill in their own right.

Chief among them are current city rising stars Runaround Kids, rounding off a year that saw them play at the Leeds and Reading Festivals.

Add to them Blood Oranges, Tiny Planets and The Ran-Tan Waltz and there’s more than enough to warm the cockles on what’s forecast to be another wintry night.

If not, then the free mulled wine and mince pies will certainly do the job!

Doors open at 8pm and entry is £4, for ages 18-plus.
