Theatre-goers will cower at the evil deeds of the Wicked Witch and delight in the happy-ever-after ending.

This stage adaptation, written by group member Paul Haley, was first performed by Wakefield Little Theatre in 1991, when a review in the Wakefield Express said: “It attracted children galore to the opening night who hissed and booed and shouted, ‘behind you’ in the best panto tradition, despite it not being a panto!”

Wakefield Little Theatre, which evolved from Wakefield Youth Dramatic Society in 1948, is the city’s oldest drama group and puts on around five shows a year in Wakefield and Barnsley.

For tickets, which cost between £10-£12, plus concessions, call the theatre box office on 01924 211311.
