Stan’s the federation man

Local club official Stan Breedon is the newly elected president of the Wakefield and Pontefract concert secretaries federation.

Stan is the concert secretary at the successful Horbury wmc and his expertise is now at the disposal of our local federation, who try hard to promote clubland in this area. Stan’s telephone number is 01924 825034 and he is asking clubs who are not members of the federation to join. I’m sure that new clubs will come along under the umbrella of the federation as Moorthorpe Empire Club has just done at the last federation meeting.

Best of luck to all of them. I shall definitely be going along to the federation annual command show, which is being staged at Carlton wmc near Rothwell on November 2.

The acts appearing this year are Carefree, Ellie Gent, Trevor Craig, Two Steps Forward and James Brandon. The man chosen to compere the show is the lively and hard-working Sheldon Bonner. Don’t miss this key in the local live entertainment and clubland calendar.

The talent show at Crigglestone wmc in Wakefield has been cancelled due to a lack of support. Concert secretary Peter Makinson was in touch with this news. There are an awful lot of talent shows out there at the moment and perhaps one more would be overkill. Speaking of which, I am hearing persistent rumours regarding the return of the talent show I used to produce – Northern Startrail – returning to a venue in the Wakefield area. Just for the record, I have not been involved in the talent show business for many years and I have no intention of making a comeback.

Suffice it to say that if the event in its original format is to return, it will not be with me at the helm. Hopefully this mention will put an end to all the rumours.

Local lasses Beebi Dell and Anne Christie make up the Saturday night entertainment at Moorthorpe Empire Club in South Elmsall over the night week or two. Both these great clubland ladies won’t have far to go for this booking as the pair live locally and both should enjoy lovely evenings.

I hear that Wakefield couple John and Karen Mycroft have resumed both their duo and respective solo careers in our clubs. John Mycroft is one of the most highly respected singers on the local scene, while his missus Karen sings solo under the stage name Toni Ross.

This popular clubland couple have now started taking duo bookings again after a recent break from the stage for blonde bombshell Karen (aka Toni). Performing together as Aztec, I’m sure that many club-goers will have the pleasure to see the pair on their travels throughout the winter.
