The Lady in the Van was written by Bennett about Miss Shepherd, a belligerent homeless woman who parked up her van in the garden of his London home and refused to leave for 15 years.

The play started as a short story, and went on to become a radio play as well as a stage play.

The Lady in the Van is at the Alhambra from July 11 to 16. Tickets cost £10.50-£24, available from www.bradford-theatres.co.uk or the box office on 01274 432000.
