Jack Busby, Director of Retail Operations at Landsec, which owns Junction 32, said safety for staff and customers was the number one priority and the centre was keeping an eye on the number of people allowed into the centre at any one point.

He said the centre had not reached capcity yet and Monday usually wasn't a big shopping day but staff were keeping a close eye on the situation.

Under current UK government advice, non-essential retailers will be allowed to open from next week, provided they have carried out a risk assessment and introduce measures to encourage social distancing where possible.

Wakefield's Trinity Walk and Ridings shopping centres are among those to have confirmed plans to begin reopening from next week.
