The Market Tap in Castleford didn't have a single customer in for a full hour of opening at one stage, owner Rob said.

He said it was an "absolute first for us to not have one soul in" and said "this is what a tier 2 pub looks like".

"Not had one customer in for a full hour.

"An absolute first for us to not have one soul in.

"Hopefully this isn’t a sign of what’s to come this weekend and for the foreseeable future.

"Perhaps it’s the rubbish weather?

"Perhaps the novelty of a new bar opening in Castleford has worn off.

"Who knows? Hopefully it’s just a small blip."

Rob called on customers to support their favourite venues.

He continued: "If you do have a favourite bar, cafe, restaurant etc.

"I’d strongly suggest going by and showing some support right now or there’s a possibility you will never walk through their doors again.

"If you’re long overdue that date night with your other half, commit to a day/night out with them and let your hair down.

"Get the full support bubble together and unite for a good ol’ knees up.

"Go out, have fun and support your fave local place, they’ll massively appreciate the support right now."

Rob said that just two regulars came in to the pub prior to the post - with one man joining shortly after to offer his support after spotting the words on Facebook.

He added: "It’s frustrating to say the least, especially when the data doesn’t suggest these measures will have any impact anyway."
