The area now known as Trinity Walk was originally comprised of largely derelict land, though some businesses, including the 150-year-old Tut ‘n’ Shive pub, were demolished to make way for the centre.

Plans for a new shopping centre in the city were first revealed in 1999, and formal permission for the centre was granted in 2006

At the time, the new shopping centre was described as “the most important development for 20 years”.

Ground on the site was broken on September 6, 2007, at a ceremony attended by developers and council representatives.
