The proposal of two hours free parking aims to provide ongoing support for residents and businesses with the district’s economic recovery from Covid-19.

Coun Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Highways, said: “We think that two hours free parking in our off-street car parks would help give local businesses a real boost to recover from the impact of Covid-19 and we want to know if residents and local businesses would also welcome this option.

“We also know how important access to our parks and greenspace has been for people’s physical and mental wellbeing and when the current lockdown restrictions come to an end, we hope that extending the two hour free parking offer will encourage people to continue their enjoyment of our fantastic country parks.

“We also recognise that under Covid-19 there are restrictions and limitations on how people use public transport and on car sharing - so this measure helps support alternative transport choices to make life easier for people during these challenging times.
