Kyte Hotel in Darrington announced this morning that due to the pandemic the owners have taken the difficult decision.

All of the staff were given the news earlier this week.

Mystery surrounded the future of the venue when numerous couples, who have their big day at the hotel, took to social media to say they could not reach anybody from the company.

But the bosses now say they look to repay those who have paid for upcoming events at the Old Great North Road venue.

The announcement put out this morning reads: "We are extremely sorry to confirm that we have had to take the decision to permanently close Kyte as a hotel and restaurant venue.

"The current level of losses coupled with the uncertainty about future prospects has forced this decision upon us.

"However, we have not put the company into administration and we fully intend to meet all our financial obligations, while using our premises for different purposes.

"Obviously we are letting down a number of customers who have future events booked with us and we massively regret that, but by taking the action we have taken it gives us the best opportunity to refund monies paid to us in respect of those booking which we can no longer fulfill.

"If you are entitled to a refund of a deposit or payment on account for a future booking which we can no longer honour, please email your details including the amount of refund requested to [email protected] and subject to agreement of the amount we will undertake to refund your money within three working days of agreeing your claim.

"Can we also say thank you to all of you who have sent their best wishes and expressions of support, it is very much appreciated."
