Professional body appoints building boss

A director of a Wakefield building firm has been appointed to a top position for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Martin Conlon, a surveyor and director with Calder Park-based Assent Building Control Ltd, has been named national chairman of the RICS’s Building Control Professional group.

The group is made up of professionals who have an interest in regulations covering the design and construction of buildings.

Mr Conlon said he hoped to use his skills and experience to expand the role of the RICS.

He said: “I am truly honoured and flattered to be appointed to such a prestigious position. “

Assent Building Control was founded in 2005 by Richard Batte and John Dilley and has a team of more than 50 qualified surveyors.

The company, which offers building control services, along with technical seminars and training, operates from 25 locations around the UK, including its head office on Navigation Court, Calder Park.

Mr Conlon said his appointment to the professional group came as Assent was looking to expand its operations nationally and internationally.

He said: “I have lots of ideas to help develop the RICS and help it continue its work particularly in assisting young graduates into their careers in surveying.”
