Wakefield businesses could receive up to £25,000

Wakefield Council is set to make up to £25,000 available for businesses in the area that have been impacted by Coronavirus.

Eligible businesses include anything from a small business not paying business rates, to shops, restaurants and cinemas.

Those businesses that pay little or no business rates are eligible for a one-off grant of £10,000 if they already receive Small Business Rate Relief and/or Rural Rate Relief.

However, a business that occupies property, businesses in retail, hospitality and the leisure sectors is eligible for a grant of up to £25,000 per property.

Properties that will benefit from the relief will be occupied buildings that are wholly or mainly being used as shops, restaurants, cafes, drinking establishments, cinemas and live music venues, for assembly and leisure, or as hotels, guest and boarding premises and self-catering accommodation.

The government has introduced an online application process for the Covid-19 business grant, which was mad available to local authorities yesterday, April 1.
