Wakefield Council services to be disrupted as workers walk out on strike

Around 40,000 households across the Wakefield district will not have their bins emptied next week as council workers walk out on strike.

Wakefield Council staff will be among thousands of public sector workers across the country taking strike action next Thursday (July 10).

A Wakefield Council spokesman said: “Residents should expect some disruption to services. We expect emergency services and services for the most vulnerable to still be in place and we will do everything we can to maintain other services.

“But we are advising people to check before they use a council service. Parents and carers need to contact their children’s nurseries, children’s centres and schools directly for the most up to date position.

“We won’t know until the day itself the extent of the disruption to services.”
