Wakefield estate agents, Cooper and Cutt, marks 30th year

A Wakefield estate agents is celebrating its 30th birthday.

Cooper and Cutt, on Wood Street, originally started as a partnership between Malcolm Cutt and Nigel Cooper in September 1990 with both partners having several years’ experience in estate agency, primarily house sales.

However, the duo decided they would also specialise in property lettings and management due to the fact that no other local firms offered this specialist trade.

The company has gone on to become one of the major letting agencies in the area and was named gold winner in the Wakefield letting agent category in the 2019-20 British Property Awards.

When Nigel died unexpectedly in November 1997, the business was ultimately run under the sole proprietorship of Malcolm, with the assistance of his now-wife Carol and several dedicated staff members.

Malcolm’s son Gary joined the firm in 2004 and eventually bought the business in 2012.

Over the years, the costs involved with house sales and general promotion has meant that other agencies have also diversified into the world of lettings and management.

The arrival of several online agencies provided even more competition but Cooper and Cutt remained in their original city centre location, making it easy for clients.

Malcolm retired from a consultancy role in 2018 but Cooper and Cutt is still primarily a family-run enterprise, now solely offering property lettings and management.

The firm now employs six staff members, including Gary and Carol.
