The Highways Agency says the work will include widening the approaches to the M1 at junction 41 near Carr Gate, improving lighting and creating three lanes on the roundabout.

The work, which is expected to last until January 2015, will mainly be carried out between 8pm and 6am, and at weekends.

Roger Wantling, Highways Agency service delivery team leader, said the work would reduce congestion.

He said “The M1 junction 41 roundabout is heavily congested, causing severe delays for drivers.

“The A650 is also a very busy link in to Wakefield and Leeds, these improvements will make journey times more reliable.”

During the work it will be necessary to carry out overnight slip road and lane closures, and temporary traffic lights may be in operation.
