Clearing is how universities fill remaining places and applications can be made using it if a student is not holding an offer from elsewhere.

More than 47,000 students were accepted through clearing last year.

The most common reason for using clearing is if students didn’t get the results needed for their university offers on results day.

Where to go for help with clearing:

What are BTEC and T Levels?

BTECs are an advanced level 3 courses and equivalent to 3 A-Levels.

However, they have a shorter work experience period (2 weeks) and are mainly focused on developing key skills during practical sessions in college.

The course is a combination of in-class study and work placement.

T-levels are advanced level 3 courses and are also equivalent to 3 A Levels and were introduced in 2020.

They offer a much longer period of industry placement (usually up to almost 3 months) and aimed at students who are very clear on the career path they wish to pursue.

Students will also be picking up BTEC and T Level results today
