Ofsted officers twice said Crofton Academy was not performing well enough following full inspections in 2017 and 2019.

Following a recent short inspection from the education watchdog, they deemed the school to be making the changes necessary.

They highlighted the work put in by school leaders during the most recent lockdown, having put in a clear plan for pupils learning on site and remotely, adapted subject content and that pupils were well supported.

The inspection itself was conducted remotely, which included discussions with the headteacher and other senior leaders, staff, the academy trust's chief executive officer and representatives of those responsible for governance.

Since the last full inspection, the school has joined the Castleford Academy Trust.

There are also changes to the leadership with a deputy head having left and two new assistant headteachers being appointed, along with a new business manager.

The pupils have all now returned to the classroom.

Headteacher Peter Walker said: “A wonderful team effort at Crofton Academy during the lockdown period ensured that all pupils received their education and that the procedures in place have supported the pupils with their work and wellbeing.

"This includes new technologies and ways of delivering this material for pupils at home and ensuring those at school received the same content with additional support from staff onsite.

"This report reflects on the work that has been carried out during lockdown, but mentions the tremendous effort and work the school does as part of Castleford Academy Trust to ensure the school continues to improve rapidly.”

Daniella Cook, secondary director of education at the trust, said: "Leaders are dedicated to making this the best school it can be, Mr Walker and his team roll up their sleeves and get the job done."
