A-level results day: Wakefield College celebrates 'excellent' grades and 'resilient' students

Staff praised students for their "hard work and resilience" in achieving a strong set of results, which saw the college achieve an overall pass rate of 97 per cent.

In total, 28 per cent of results were grades A* to B, while an impressive 12 BTEC Extended Diploma students achieved the top possible marks of three Distinction stars.

College Principal, Sam Wright, said: “I am absolutely delighted to see that our students have once again achieved excellent results.

"Students should be proud of how they have adapted to the unique circumstances this year and have confidence going onto further study or employment.

"Every one of our students is an individual and supported according to their needs. We look forward to welcoming back new and returning students in September.

“I along with all the senior team and governors, would like to congratulate all of our students and staff on their hard work and success.”

After a strange academic year, which saw exams and assessments cancelled for all students, the college praised

Across the college, 12 A-level subjects achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, including Business, Chemistry, Law, Maths and Physics.

Amongst this year’s top achievers, Oliver Dixon secured a place at the University of York to study maths after gaining A (Maths), A (Further Maths), A (Computer Science) and C (History).

He said: “I’m happy I’ve got the UCAS points I needed. The College has been really good and supported me throughout my time here.”

Head of A Levels, Richard Collings, said: “Our students have coped admirably with the difficult situation they have faced over the last few months and these results really do demonstrate their commitment and resilience.”
