But despite new safety measures being put in place, a number of schools in the Wakefield district have found themselves tackling an outbreak.

Guidance was issued to try and minimise the risk of spreading Covid-19 and outlining contingency plans in the case of a local outbreak.

Schools were told to avoid large gatherings, such as assemblies, and to avoid singing in larger groups, such as school choirs and ensembles.

This guidance also included keeping pupils in class or year-sized “bubbles”.

This means there is no mixing between the "bubble" groups in classrooms, corridors and other open areas.

It allows schools to easily identify those who may need to self-isolate if someone within the "bubble" tests positive for the virus

This means if a pupil tests positive in one "bubble", only that "bubble" will need to isolate and not the other "bubbles", limiting the impact on each year group.

Since schools reopened across the city, a number of "bubbles" have been affected by positive coronavirus cases.

Here is every school in the Wakefield district that has had confirmed coronavirus cases:

Highfield School

From today (September 28) Highfield School said it has closed one class in P16 due to two staff members being symptomatic, one of whom is a passenger assistant. On her bus run there is a pupil who is currently in isolation and her grandparent have had a positive test result. The school said: "As we have pupils with underlying health issues as well as not wishing to move class across bubbles or bring agency staff in we have closed the class until the results are back."

One class has been sent home to self-isolate. In a letter to parents, the school said on September 23, that: "Within the last 24-hours the academy has been notified that a pupil in Year 4 has tested positive for Covid-19. The pupil hasn’t been in the academy since Monday 21 September.

"In line with guidance and our planned response, the academy has sought advice from Public Health / Health Protection Team and they have advised us to ask the class bubble to self-isolate for 14 days.

"Pupils and staff who have been directly impacted have been notified of the specific actions that they need to take. It is important to note that if the academy has not made direct contact with you there is no further action for you that is necessary in relation to this case, and your child is expected to attend the academy as normal. "

Outwood Primary Academy Lofthouse Gate

As reported last week, a spokesperson for Outwood Primary Academy Lofthouse Gate, said: "Due to a staff member testing positive for Covid, a year 2 class as well as 17 children from the parallel year 2 class, and three other children, are now self-isolating with our remote learning resources available them to ensure they do not miss out on their education.
