Year 5 pupils sent home from Wakefield school after coronavirus case confirmed

Ossett South Parade Primary School confirmed that they were this week advised that a pupil had tested positive for the virus, and were now taking "every precaution to protect [their] community".

Following advice from Public Health England, they have now asked all children in the Year 5 'bubble' to isolate until Thursday, October 8.

The affected children should not leave the house during this time, but other members of the household do not need to isolate unless someone presents with symptoms, the school said.

If the isolating child has sibling in school, the siblings can still attend, but those isolating should not accompany families on the school run.

In a letter to parents of affected pupils issued earlier this week, the school said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school.

"We have followed the national guidance and have identified that your child has been in close contact with the affected case within the Y5 bubble.

"In line with the national guidance we recommend that your child now stay at home and self-isolate until 8th October (14 days after contact). Return to school on Friday 9 th October.

"We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of COVID 19 to others in the community.

"If your child is well at the end of the 14 days period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities.

"Thank you to all of our school community for your support and understanding in the circumstances."
