This note, left outside a home by a family-of-four in Horbury, said "thank you" to "heroes who wear hi-vis", in tribute to refuse collectors going out on their daily rounds on Friday.

Binmen have continued to work through the coronavirus crisis, with domestic rubbish and recycling collections carrying on as normal in the Wakefield district.

The poem, which was signed by "Tony, Emma, Jack and Lucy" and tweeted by Wakefield Council this morning, read in full:

Some heroes wear hi-vis,

Some wear capes, some can fly,

Some invisible, some can't die,

Some are strong with flesh like steel,

Some are fiction, some are real,

Some are doctors, some are police,

Some put out fires, some keep the peace,

Some try to sort bad people's sins,

You're the heroes that empty the bins,

Thank you for the service you provide

The note was well received on social media, with one Twitter user, saying: "Fantastic. A key worker does not always have a stethoscope."
