Bus driver Covid outbreak forcing service cancellations, operator confirms

Bus services across the district have been affected because of an outbreak of Covid-19 among drivers, operator Arriva has confirmed.

Although the exact number has not been disclosed, Arriva Yorkshire say it has "impacted driver availability" in recent days.

In a statement, Arriva added: "In turn, it has caused some issues with services running as per our advertised timetables. Despite efforts to mitigate negative impact for customers as much as is possible, there have been a small number of service cancellations.

"We have endeavoured to keep our customers informed of service related issues, such as cancellations, via our social media channels.

"Our customer services team has also been on hand to provide further information for customers on Wakefield services."

Patrick Sibley, managing director for the company added: “The safety of our customers and colleagues is Arriva’s number one priority.

"We are working closely with DFT, the Health and Safety Executive and Public Health England and can confirm that a small number of colleagues have tested positive for Covid-19.

"In line with NHS Test and Trace, we are fully supporting any colleagues who have been requested to self-isolate by NHS Test and we will continue to follow all the latest guidance to keep our workspaces and buses Covid-19 secure."
