The Local Vocals choir leader, Jenna Fan, chose the song ‘Over the Rainbow’ as the rainbow has become a symbol of appreciation for our National Health Service.

Jenna said: “I commissioned this arrangement around 18 months ago because Ossett put on a 1940s weekend every year, and we’ve sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ for the last two years at the event.

“I still hold virtual sessions for the choir on Thursday evenings on Zoom, we’re all enthusiastic about our choir practice and it gives everyone a bit of structure and something to look forward to.

“One of our members suggested we record the song virtually with all our voices to raise money for the NHS and it was a really good idea.

“The original song arrangement is by Alison George and the accompanist is Julie Townend.”

Jenna recorded a version of the song for the choir to sing along to at home.

Over 30 individual singers recorded themselves individually, then they sent their recordings over to Jenna for her to put together.

The video includes the choir’s recording of the song and a slideshow of photographs featuring the choir members showing their appreciation for the NHS.

The choir have set up a JustGiving page and are hoping to raise a target of £500 for the NHS.

Jenna said: “So far we’ve raised over £400, we’re going to keep going for as long as it takes.

“Making the video has been nice for the choir, they got their children involved to help them make rainbow pictures and it’s given us all a sense of purpose.

“I’m proud because the choir has worked so hard and didnt give them long to crack on with their recordings.

“Everyone seems to be enjoying it, we’ve got some really good comments and feedback on the video.”
