Public Health England confirm 100th case of coronavirus in Wakefield as death toll reaches 26

In new data released today (Friday, April 3), Public Health England confirmed that 105 people in the district have tested positive for Covid-19.

This means there is now one confirmed case for around every 3,285 people in the district.

It comes as NHS England confirms that at least 26 patients at Mid Yorkshire hospitals have died after testing positive for the virus.

The figures, which are correct as of 5pm yesterday, cover patients staying at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury and District hospitals.

These include three deaths on Wednesday and an two on Thursday.

But the NHS warned that these numbers were "likely to be updated" in future, as post mortem results are processed.

No further information about the victims is known at this time.

Nationally, 38,168 people have now tested positive for the virus, and there have been 3,605 deaths.
