These are the latest coronavirus figures for the Wakefield district

The latest figures, released by NHS England today, show that a total of 281 people have died at hospitals run by the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust after testing positive for the illness.

According to the information, which is accurate up to 5pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, there were nine deaths at between Saturday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 27.

Coronavirus care in the Mid Yorkshire area has been centralised at Pinderfields Hospital, though the Trust also runs Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals.

here have also been at least 70 deaths at care homes in the Wakefield district, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

It comes as the UK Government begins the roll out of its new Track and Trace programme, which is designed to identify all those who have come into contact with people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

A total of 740 people in the Wakefield district have now tested positive for coronavirus, according to Public Health England, meaning there is roughly one confirmed case for every 466 people in the district.

Nationally, there have been 267,240 confirmed cases, and 37,460 hospital deaths.
