Figures released today reveal that a total of 2,063 people in the district have now tested positive for the disease, up from 1,873 on August 1.
Wakefield Council has confirmed that the district remains an area of concern, while neighbouring authorities Kirklees and Calderdale remain in lockdown.

Hide AdThe largest spike in cases was recorded in the week beginning Monday, August 10, with 58 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in four days.
In their latest coronavirus dashboard, which covers this same week, Wakefield Council said the rate of cases rose to 20.6 per 100,000.
Coun Faith Heptinstall, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, said: “By sharing the relevant data, we hope to give residents the most accurate picture we can on what’s happening across our district.

Hide Ad“Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in the number of people being infected. This is a stark reminder to us all to not be complacent and to continue to follow the important advice given.
"COVID-19 remains a real threat to us all and I urge everyone to continue taking action to reduce the spread of infection.”
Four coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded at Mid Yorkshire hospitals this month, with a total of 335 confirmed deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Hide AdA further 89 deaths involving Covid-19 have been confirmed at the district's care homes.
Anna Hartley, Director of Public Health for the Wakefield district, said: “Cases are rising in the district, that is why we need to act now to stop any further measures being imposed on the district. It’s vital that we do all we can to help prevent a further increase.
