Strike action could hit Yorkshire Ambulance Service

Hundreds of ambulance workers could go on strike after voting in favour of industrial action.

Around 1,500 members of public sector union Unison could walk out in a dispute with Yorkshire Ambulance Service over pay and working conditions.

The union claims management have failed to stick to agreements with Unison on issues including meal breaks and overtime.

Unison members voted 82 per cent in favour of industrial action. The union will decide what action to take at a meeting today.

A Unison spokesman said: “Unison A&E members have given the branch committee a clear and resounding mandate that they are willing to take industrial action due to the Trust not adhering to recently agreed policies and procedures.”

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said a meeting with the conciliation body Acas would be held next week to try and resolve the dispute.

Ian Brandwood, executive director of people and engagement, said: “We are disappointed by the result and do not feel that industrial action will help us respond to the challenges

“The trust is already making changes to address some of the concerns raised and our focus remains on the wellbeing of our staff whilst continuing to provide high levels of patient care.”
