Two GP surgeries still closed after coronavirus closures

Two local doctor's surgeries remain closed to patients, having temporarily shut when the coronavirus pandemic started.

Church View Health Centre in South Kirkby and South Hiendley Surgery, on the border between the Wakefield district and Barnsley, stopped seeing patients on March 25.

Health bosses said the closures were made after requests from staff.

Patients from both surgeries are still being seen at partner surgeries, however.

Church View may reopen on June 15 but that's yet to be confirmed, a public meeting was told on Tuesday.

South Hiendley surgery has no fixed date for reopening but plans for social distancing have been put in place if patients are allowed back soon.

Jonathan Webb from Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which oversees GP practices in the district, said the organisaton was "engaging regularly" with both surgeries.

Meanwhile, three other local surgeries have now reopened after temporary closures.

The Sharlston branch of Crofton Surgery was open to patients again on May 18, after shutting on April 2.

Castleford Health Centre and Sandal Castle Branch Surgery, in Wakefield, closed on the first May Bank Holiday but reopened immediately afterwards, the CCG said.

Queen Street Surgery in Wakefield and Elizabeth Court Surgery in Castleford are currently both operating at reduced hours.

Queen Street is closed in the afternoons, while Elizabeth Court is shut in the mornings.
