Arts &Heritage, a programme who help place contemporary art alongside heritage projects, are working with Wakefield Council to help find an artist who will help boost the profile of Pontefract Castle.

The council has been looking at Pontefract Castle’s history and significance in different ways and are interested in exploring the rich history of the site through the eyes of an artist.

In a statement, they said: “We are open to ideas and welcome responses from artists working in all disciplines and are looking forward to considering unusual, imaginative and creative ideas.”

The commission needs to be an outdoor work, and artists need to be aware of taking into consideration weather conditions in late August early September, which is when the work will be shown.

The artist directing the project will receive a commission budget of £15,000 that will cover fees, travel and accommodation costs, making of the work and the installation and deinstallation.
