Bev, 65, who works at Crigglestone St. James CE Primary Academy, is trying to raise as much money as possible for The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

To raise the money and make her friends, family and neighbours smile during lockdown, Bev has been completing 1,000 hula hoop rotations every day since the beginning of May.

Bev said: “I felt so guilty when everyone in the community was doing their bit to help each other at the beginning of lockdown.

“I knew I had to do something, but I can’t bake or sew or deliver food - so I had to think about ways I could help someone who was struggling.

“I thought about hula hooping because I used to enjoy it as a child, but I enjoy it - it’s like learning to ride a bike, you never really forget how to do it.”

Since she began this challenge, Bev has raised over £650 for The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, a West Yorkshire based charity that help parents, children and families cope with life limiting conditions and loss.

She has been posting regular updates on her Facebook page, including photos and videos of her hula hooping in a grass skirt in her garden, singing along to to 'Help' by The Beatles.

Bev said: “Not being able to go to work was really hard, so I wanted to do something to support a charity, I know a lot of local people have been supporting the Hospice and the NHS during lockdown.

“I just want to raise as much money as we can, I know people are struggling for money at the moment as they might have lost their jobs.

“But the charities are struggling too, even as little as donating £1 will help make a difference.”
