Step inside derelict Castleford nightclub set to be transformed

Urban explorers have taken a number of fascinating pictures inside an iconic Castleford nightclub set to be transformed.

The 1,500-capacity Bondi Beach club opened in 2003 following a £3 million transformation of the former Cannon Cinema on Albion Street.

But before it is transformed, urban explorers from Abandoned UK have been inside and taken some fascinating pictures of the derelict interior – sure to spark memories of past nights out.

Abandoned UK said: “Bondi Beach club, which was the old cinema on Albion Street, created 50 jobs when it opened in March 2003."

Abandoned UK are not the first urban explorers to visit, after another explorer gained access to the property two years ago and took more stunning images – including of the iconic shark which used to hang from the ceiling.

Bronwen Knight, Wakefield Council service director for planning, transportation and strategic highways, said: “It is absolutely crucial that without proper authorisation, nobody enters or attempts to enter disused or derelict buildings.

“Not only is this type of activity illegal, but there are often many hidden dangers inside such buildings that may cause significant risk to health or in the worst cases lead to injury or death.

“We urge anyone who witnesses this kind of activity to report it to the Police. ”

West Yorkshire Police has been approached for comment.

However, a sister force said recently: “Insecure disused buildings pose a serious risk to anyone who enters them.

“Sites such as this are often in serious states of disrepair and have a number of potential dangers within them.

“Those entering these types of site are leaving themselves vulnerable to serious injury and even death.”
