Featherstone couple keep their music therapy business going by performing in care home car parks

On Friday afternoon, Pam and Peter Stone, of music therapy business Keystone Keeping Older People Smiling, performed in the car park of Glynn Residential Home while residents sang along and watched from indoors.

The couple became concerned for their business after their music therapy contracts with care homes had to be suspended, due to the Coronavirus.

After receiving the email from the Glynn care home in Wakefield asking them to perform in the car park, Pam and Peter were determined not to let their friends in care homes down, despite the dangers.

Pam said: “I knew as soon as the care homes were going into lock-down, our business would suffer, because we can’t get inside to provide the therapy these residents need.

“We were delighted when Glynn Residential Home asked us to perform in the car park, when we arrived we set up our equipment in the car park, which two lounges of the care home overlook.

“They were all singing along and there were so many big smiles on their faces, me and Peter couldn’t be happier with how it went.

“We will not be beat, doing this we’ll be able to keep working while providing entertainment and therapy for the residents who can’t receive visitors, and the staff who are working so hard for them at such a scary time.

“The love and respect shown to the residents by staff at Glynn Residential Home is fantastic, and the amazing and the lengths they go to to keep life easier for residents is unbelievable.”

The pair use wireless equipment, with Pam on lead vocals and Peter playing guitar.
