MOTORISTS are being warned of overnight weekend closures of the A1 near Pontefract later this month.
The Highways Agency plans to resurface and repair potholes on a three-quarter mile section of the road between Darrington and Barnsdale Bar as part of the £320,000 project.
The section of road will shut for three consecutive weekends between 8pm and 6am, starting on Saturday June 16.
The northbound carriage will be closed on Saturday June 16 and Sunday June 17, and the southbound carriage will be shut on Saturday June 23 and Sunday June 24.
A further closure of the southbound carriageway – for the bridge joint replacement work at Darrington and Wentbridge – will take place overnight on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1, with the whole scheme completed by 6am on Monday July 2.
Alan Apps, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “This is important work to repair potholes in the carriageway and ensure users of the A1 in this part of the country can continue to enjoy safe, smooth reliable journeys.
“We will maximise use of the carriageway closures to carry out routine maintenance such as litter picking and gully cleaning, limiting future inconvenience to drivers.”
Diversions for traffic will be put in place near the closures, but cars travelling on the A1 will be diverted from Langham Interchange at junction 35 or junction 32a of the A1 to the M62 and M18.
