Ackworth Boys’ Brigade lends a helping hand in Kenya

Members of Ackworth Boys’ Brigade jetted off to Kenya to help a disadvantaged community.

Seven members of the group spent just over a week in Kisumu – the country’s third largest city – at the end of October.

Working with the Isaiah Trust, a Christian charity, they installed two water tanks, planted 21 banana trees and helped build a greenhouse so the community can grow its own food.

The group also enjoyed football, parachute games and camping and were treated to a 36-hour safari in the Masai Mara.

It took the group 18 months to raise enough money to pay for the trip. Ackworth Boys’ Brigade now hopes the trip can be repeated in the future for younger members of the group.

Colin Godridge, company captain, said: “We are very grateful for all the support we received from so many different people.”
