An Admiral nurse for the district after three-and-a-half year campaign

Sheila Wainwright raised thousands of pounds to fund an Admiral Nurse for the district after the death of her husband of 33 years John.

The dementia nurses give specialist practical and emotional support to people with dementia and their families.

Mrs Wainwright, of Woolley, launched her campaign after struggling to get help as John’s Alzeimer’s disease worsened.

The campaign raised almost £30,000 with the help of group including the Soroptomists, Inner Wheel, Women’s Institute and district rotary clubs.

The new nurse will be based in Ossett after being commissioned by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Mrs Wainwright said: “It’s been three-and-a-half years. I’m over the moon.”

Admiral Nurses They offer advice to both families and carers, as well as giving guidance on tough decisions including treatments and care.

There are only 130 Admiral nurses in the country, seven of which are in Kirklees.
