Community champion John Morton will receive a special award for his years of service to the Old Quarry Adventure Playground in Knottingley this month.
John, 71, retired as chairman of the playground earlier this year, after serving for 40 years, and will receive the award at the area forum meeting on June 15.
Holly Ellis, playground manager, said: “Without John and his wife Ann, and their commitment, integrity, warmth and enthusiasm, the playground would not have survived. They have been a blessing to us all and have put valuable amounts of time into the building, staff and children. John has never done anything with thought of reward, but deserves to be recognised for his voluntary work.”
John, pictured centre with Holly and Coun Glenn Burton, has worked tirelessly for the playground, including looking after the facilities, managing staff and helping to work on the site.
